VIVA LA OCCUPATION!
Six months and going stronger than ever. It’s taken a huge amount of work from lots of lovely people to keep it happening! Thanks to everyone who has helped to make the occupation the resounding success that it is - hoping to see y’all again IN THE VALLEY!
A bit rainy up at camp this week, but we have been cosy and dry in the ger, (of course) which we had to turn inside out...
Because, when we carried it in, we left the insulation in the van, at the roadend, and it was SUPPOSED to go in between the canvas and the framework - but of course we didn’t have it so we couldn’t.
(Blessings to Tara who talked to the guy who made the Ger and found out how it was supposed to go!)
So a few days ago, we untied all the ropes and took the insulation from where we had tied it on to the inside and put it in it’s rightful place!
Yay! we now have more room inside, less damp, and can see the bamboo lattice again.
We have been going for lots of walks in the countryside and - with the rainiest months of the year in mind (october/november) have been continuing to cut and mark the ‘dry’ ridgeline track. It is a lot longer than the usual track, but besides a big hillclimb, still a comfortable walk. (and most importantly doesn’t cross any rivers!)
Also with wet weather in mind, a “cloak bay” tent has been completed, for when 10 or so wet trampers show up and all want to hang up their jackets and gaters at the same time!
I finally saw a fernbird today - and am subsequently able to identify it’s call. (Fernbirds are one of the rare native birds which are found in and around Happy Valley) It was really cool - like a cross between a pippit and a fantail, with nice fading brown feathers. A few people who have come up to the occupation have been keen to see them.
Much love to all the SHV people in Aotearoa from the valley, it is really inspiring to see all the amazing work you are doing around the court cases.
